Andreas Ruby
On October 22, Tselinny will host a public lecture by Andreas Ruby, a curator, co-founder of the publishing house Ruby Press, and director of the Swiss Architecture Museum (@S AM Schweizerisches Architekturmuseum). Lecture topic: "Architecture as Museum Exhibit?" Andreas Ruby is known for his extensive research work such as a catalog of iconic projects by Swiss architecture firms and for his unconventional take on the future of communal housing.
Andreas Ruby: “I’m convinced that architecture cannot be exhibited. Architecture presents itself as a building, at a 1:1 scale, in its actual materiality and context. What is typically displayed at architectural exhibitions are miniature, decontextualized images — drawings, photographs, models — all referring to architectural works that exist outside the museum. This inability to show architecture in its literal, physical form within an exhibition space demands a unique curatorial approach if you truly want to represent architecture.”
The lecture is arranged by @urbanforum.kz as part of the program “Cities and People: Kazakhstan and Switzerland.”
