Yerbossyn Meldibekov is one of the leading voices in Central Asian art; his work The Map of Genghis Khan, or the Hide of a Red Horse is presented as part of the exhibition Documentation: Imagining Central Asia on the Map of Contemporary Art

In conversation with curator Dastan Kozhakhmetov, they will discuss Erbossyn’s artistic practice and address the exoticization of art. On view is The Map of Genghis Khan, or the Hide of a Red Horse: on a turned-inside-out horsehide, borders are stitched in red and black thread—a timeless pseudo-map; its archival iterations include a postcard, a booklet, and an installation assembled from 2007 photographic materials.
