Artist Talk with Taus Makhacheva

Taus Makhacheva (b. 1983) critically reinterprets intercultural interactions and constantly tests the boundaries of existing realities, often using humor as a tool. Her works typically begin with stories—either told or lived—and branch out into divergent narrative paths.
She graduated from the Fine Art department at Goldsmiths College (2007), completed the “New Artistic Strategies” program at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Moscow (2009), and earned her MA from the Royal College of Art in London (2013).
Makhacheva’s works were presented at the Biennale of Difficult Heritage (2021), Yokohama Triennale (2020), Lahore Biennale (2020), Kaunas Biennale (2019), Lyon Biennale (2019), Riga Biennale (2018), Liverpool Biennial (2018), Manifesta (2018), Yinchuan Biennale (2018), Venice Biennale (2017), Garage Triennial of Contemporary Art (2017), Shanghai Biennale (2016), Kyiv Biennale (2015), Sharjah Biennale (2013), and Moscow Biennale (2011).
