The latest part of the project traces the tangled journey of Taraxacum Kok-saghyz (commonly known as Kazakh dandelion or rubber-bearing dandelion), an endemic species of Kazakhstan, from the mountain valleys of the Tien Shan to collective farms across the Soviet Union, from Nazi Germany’s greenhouses in Auschwitz to the modern laboratories of multinational rubber corporations. What do the transformations of Kok-saghyz reveal about the inseparable ties between people, plants, politics, and power?
The project is supported by @ifa.de and the Senate Department for Culture and Europe (Berlin).
