Lecture “Lake Balkhash as a Natural and Cultural Divide”

The lecture will explore how the landscapes of the northern and southern Balkhash regions influenced the development of cultures and ways of life among communities connected by the lake. Participants will learn about how nomadic and semi-settled communities adapted to their environment in antiquity and the Middle Ages, the traditions of steppe nomadic pastoralism, and their later transformation under the influence of colonial and industrial processes.
Daulet Qozhakov is a historian and Chief Research Specialist at the Museum of the City of Balkhash.
The lecture will take place on August 29 at 2:00 pm at 59 Masanchi Street, Tselinny, Atelier educational space on the second floor of the center. Admission is free. The lecture will be held in Russian and Kazakh.
