We invite you to a lecture on Soviet mosaics in Almaty, their meanings, and their role in shaping the city’s unique visual identity.
Speaker: Anel Moldakhmetova — creative producer, curator of interdisciplinary projects at the intersection of architecture, heritage, and contemporary art, and co-founder of the Archcode Almaty platform and the “[non]-museum of architecture.”
What we’ll discuss:
– How mosaics became an integral part of Almaty’s architectural landscape
– How to learn to decipher the stories hidden in urban murals
– Why the Soviet legacy is an important part of the city’s modern identity and how to preserve it
The lecture will be especially interesting for anyone who loves Almaty, wants to gain a deeper understanding of its history, and is learning to see familiar streets from a new perspective.
Participation is free, with advance registration required.
