Margarita Skomorokh: Performance in Online Games
If a game world is a model of reality, then why shouldn’t art emerge within that reality?
Performance art first appeared in the mid-1960s as a way to blur the line between art and everyday life. Today, for performance artists, video games are a unique object of study that offers the opportunity to engage with new audiences and, in essence, bring art into people’s homes through modern technology.
Margarita Skomorokh (@ijonele), a researcher at the Laboratory for Computer Games Research (LIKI) and a member of the art group IBORG, explores the history of the relationship between art, the internet, and video games, sharing examples of the most compelling performances in online game environments.
