Qazaq musical tradition of improvisation and protest: algorithmic tökpe via live coding

This workshop explores Kazakh traditions of improvisation and protest through the practice of live coding, approaching tökpe as a system of rhythm and logic that can be reinterpreted algorithmically. Participants will experiment with modeling the behavior of plucked strings using oscillators, building rhythmic structures, and generating ornamentation.
The focus of the workshop is on creating live-coded structures that move between stability and rupture, as a way of reconfiguring and rethinking inherited musical patterns within contemporary computational practice.
