Re-Practice: Sound

Program description
The Re-Practice Sound program explores sound as a medium for cultural dialogue, political reflection, and artistic interpretation. Drawing inspiration from the rich sonic traditions of Central Asia, Turkic, and North Asian cultures, the program invites participants to rethink oral and auditory practices that have shaped worldviews and social life for centuries.
Participants will critically examine the phenomenon of “world music” and its dual representation—both as an object of admiration and a tool of cultural marginalization. Special attention will be given to sonic practices that exist beyond the Western musical canon, including traditions of sound meditation and rituals of attentive listening.
Course program
• Lectures and artist talks, where participants will explore both traditional and experimental approaches to working with sound, focusing on the historical, social, and political aspects of sonic practices.
• Practical workshops, aimed at developing new forms of sound art, which will be showcased in the final exhibition.
• Project-based work with mentors, where participants will explore both theoretical and experimental approaches to working with sound, focusing on the historical, social, and political aspects of sonic practices. They will also receive individual support in creating their final sound art project.
Re-Practice Sound Laboratory will be a space for collective listening, reflection, and creative transformation, inviting everyone—regardless of experience level—to immerse themselves in the world of sound. Participants will engage with complex contemporary questions and lay the groundwork for future collaborations and change.
