This lecture explores the book as an artistic medium—a space for unique visual, material, and tactile forms of artistic inquiry. Beginning with a historical overview of the book's role in art, the discussion will move toward the place of books both within and beyond institutional contexts, considering the book as a medium for the dissemination of ideas and as a format that offers distinct possibilities for creative expression. Particular attention will be given to the Russian-language term kniga khudozhnika (“artist's book”) and the conceptual ambiguities surrounding its use.
