Tselinny, in collaboration with the Walking Almaty project, invites you to a series of free guided tours along Kabanbai Batyr Street. Participants will discover how the Opera House has changed compared to its original design, how Soviet ideology shaped the architecture of the city center, and what secrets are hidden in Almaty’s mosaics. The route begins at the “Afisha” Cafe, continues along this historic street, and concludes at Tselinny, where visitors can join a mediation tour of the building with the Center’s mediators.

The route was developed by the Tselinny Center for Contemporary Culture together with the Walking Almaty project specifically for our visitors. During the walk, you’ll learn how the Abai Opera House has changed from its original design, how Soviet ideology shaped the architecture of the Golden Square, and what secrets Almaty’s mosaics hold. The tour runs along Kabanbay Batyr Street—from Afisha Café to the Tselinny Center for Contemporary Culture—where, if you wish, you can continue with a building tour led by the Center’s mediators.
