Almaty and Lessons from Japan
Discussion
19.10.2018
Tselinny
Tselinny will host a creative evening dedicated to architecture, titled “Almaty and Lessons from Japan.” During the discussion, Japanese architectural historian Yoshihiro Yokote and esteemed Kazakhstani architects Almas Ordabayev and Alexander Korzhembo will discuss the architecture of Almaty in the 1960s–80s, as well as the influence of Japanese architecture on local projects of that era.
“Despite the rigid Iron Curtain, the postwar Soviet architects of Almaty were far from isolated. They had access to international architectural journals and often traveled not only across the USSR but abroad as well. Their ideas aligned closely with key global themes and trends in architecture.”
