A special commission of Dariya Temirkhan’s video installation Who Guards Your Dreams was created for the interdisciplinary project BARSAKELMES. This work was a continuation of Dariya’s series of watercolors featuring snakes and dragons, as well as stories and legends about water spirits. Projected onto Yevgeny Sidorkin’s sgraffito at Tselinny Center, the work merges myth, dream, and reality, while the sounds of the Jaiq river heighten the sense of immersion. In conversation with the audience, Dariya will speak about her approach to decentralizing culture and her exploration of memory in the urban and rural life of Kazakhstan.
