Cinematic Biographies
“Cinematic Biographies” is a lecture about legendary filmmakers and their inner worlds. The author of the lecture, Amir Karakulov, shares subtle yet significant details that shape the creative signatures of cinema’s greatest minds and define the essence of their directorial approach. Vivid, captivating stories offer insight into the lives of iconic directors and help listeners feel the emotional undercurrents that drove their work.
Amir Karakulov is a screenwriter, director, producer, educator, and Honored Worker of the Republic of Kazakhstan. He studied journalism at Kazakh State University in 1982–1983, directing at VGIK (S. Solovyov’s workshop) in 1984–1987, and graduated from the directing faculty of the Almaty Theatre and Art Institute in 1990. He is a laureate of numerous international film festivals. His film The Other Woman earned him Best Director at the Barcelona Film Festival and the FIPRESCI Prize at the Moscow International Film Festival.
This lecture marks the launch of Karakulov’s “Cinematic Biographies” original series. The first session is devoted to Miloš Forman, the Czech director who left an indelible mark on American and world cinema.
