Decolonial Discourse in Central Asian Art
The participants will tell what constitutes decolonial discourse in Central Asian art, how decolonial perspectives differ from other philosophical systems and worldviews, and will trace the development of this discourse in the region.
• Madina Tlostanova is a decolonial writer and scholar, Doctor of Philology, Professor of Postcolonial Feminism at the Department of Thematic Studies, Linköping University (Sweden).
• Saule Suleimenova is a contemporary Kazakhstani artist, painter, actress, and lecturer. Member of the Green Triangle group (1988–1991), participant in exhibitions such as Kazakh: Paintings by Saule Suleimenova (USA, 2004) and East of Nowhere (Italy, 2009). Author of the “Cellophane Painting” series made from colored plastic bags.
• Medina Bazargali is a digital artist and developer working at the intersection of decolonization, feminism, and political activism. Her areas of interest include augmented reality, face filters, 3D graphics and animation, and computer science.
