In Betweens: Chantal Akerman Retrospective

Chantal Akerman is one of the key figures of contemporary cinema, whose work has reshaped how film can engage with time, space, and everyday life. Her films cultivate a distinct way of looking — through precise rhythm, observation, and attention to what usually remains unnoticed.
This retrospective includes several of her landmark works, each reflecting a different aspect of her approach — from strict structures of daily routine to films about movement, distance, and the search for one’s place in the world. It represents only a small part of her extensive and varied body of work, yet it offers an insight into the defining lines of her cinema and the development of her artistic perspective.
The retrospective is supported by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Belgium in Kazakhstan, the Tselinny Center of Contemporary Culture, and the Chantal Akerman Foundation.
