A panel discussion on a vital and timely topic for our city: “Preserving Architectural Heritage: Global Context and Almaty.” Architects, cultural researchers, scholars, and enthusiasts will try to answer the key question: How can we define and preserve Almaty's architectural identity?

The discussion will be moderated by architect, curator, and co-founder of the GRACE architecture bureau (Milan, Italy), Ekaterina Golovatyuk.

• Anna Bronovitskaya, an architectural historian, Research Director at the Institute of Modernism, and faculty member at the Moscow Architecture School (MARCH), will join via video call to share international examples of architectural preservation, particularly Moscow’s experience.

• Almas Ordabayev, an architect, historian of material culture, and PhD in architecture, will speak about the emergence of interest in heritage preservation in Kazakhstan, which began in the 1970s.

• Anel Moldakhmetova, an urban project producer, co-founder of Cityzen Space and the ArchCode Almaty project dedicated to the study and preservation of architectural heritage, will present on the current situation in Almaty.
