Queer Theory Playground

Workshop, lecture
18.08 - 22.08.2025
Tselinny

Every day from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm

Five days of reflection, movement, embodied and theoretical experimentation: we’ll explore themes of the body, power, failure, pleasure, and the future — all through the lens of queer theory. Expect gentle body practices, group discussions, collective writing, reading, rituals, and games that connect personal pasts with utopian futures.

Topics and authors include:

— Foucault, Butler, Puar, Halberstam, Muñoz, Suyarkulova, Mamedov, and others

— Failure as power

— Pleasure and joy as resistance

— The queer archive as utopia

— Time, body, voice, dance, writing, play

Saltanat Shoshanova is a researcher and activist working at the intersection of queer-feminist art, decolonial theory, and memory practices. She is a doctoral candidate at the University of Regensburg in the project “Light On! Queer Literary Cultures under Socialism,” where she writes about queer culture in Central Asia. Through her texts, projects, and artistic practice, Saltanat explores strategies of resistance and ways of rethinking trauma, identity, and history through the lens of queerness and embodiment. She is the author of publications in History & Memory and Central Asian Survey, and co-editor of the volume Queer-Feminist Solidarity and the East/West Divide.
