Reportage Illustration

In the course Reportage Illustration, the sketchbook becomes a tool for observation and a way of telling stories. Participants will learn to notice the details of everyday life and surrounding spaces, and to translate them into drawings, experimenting with different illustrative techniques.
Over the span of 10 sessions, we will gradually master the methods of reportage illustration: quick sketches, experiments with materials and narration, outdoor sessions, and more. There will be plenty of practice to help overcome the fear of the blank page, loosen up, and find one’s own visual rhythm.
The course is open to everyone, regardless of prior drawing experience. As a bonus, participants gain a love for drawing, curiosity, and the desire to share their observations. It is an opportunity to try reportage illustration as a form of self-expression and to search for one’s own voice in visual media.
Course outcome: a small zine dedicated to a theme or part of the city chosen by the participant.
Location: Atelier of the Center for Contemporary Culture Tselinny, 59 Masanchi St., Almaty.
