The World of Diaries: From Personal Entries to Literary Writing

On November 7 at 2PM, we’ll hold a workshop where we’ll explore different journaling practices and discuss how they help us notice details, capture impressions, and see familiar things in a new light.
We’ll explore different journal formats:
- personal;
- visual—a sketchbook or art journal;
- daily life;
- professional;
- reading;
- travel journal;
- observation journal;
- gratitude journal.
Each format has its own purpose and potential. Together, we’ll try our hand at keeping a journal in different formats to find the one that’s right for you.
This workshop will be of interest to anyone who wants to better understand themselves, develop their memory and creative thinking, or make journaling a part of their daily life. No special preparation is needed—all you need is curiosity and a desire to explore yourself and the world around you.
If you already keep a journal, please bring it with you. And if you’ve had a beautiful notebook sitting around for a long time that you just can’t seem to start filling out—now is the perfect time to change that. Perhaps this workshop will mark the beginning of a new chapter in your journal—and with it, a new chapter in your life.
Host
Galia Nurshaikhova, writer and author of the novel Patchwork Quilt. Galia is convinced that every person’s life story deserves to be recorded. For her, a diary is not only a space for thoughts, doubts, and plans, but also a creative practice that combines drawings, collages, and poetry. Her own diary entries became one of the sources of inspiration for her novel about women of the 20th century.
What to Bring?
If possible, bring memorable photographs, tickets (airline, subway, theater, museum), notes, drawings, pressed flowers, and other small items connected to your memories. During the workshop, we’ll try to find a place for them in the pages of a diary and turn your personal archives into material for creativity.
