Documentation is a digital database of contemporary art of Central Asia, covering the period since 1985. The project digitalises archival materials from artists, researchers, and other participants in the art scene, which are created to a thematic digital collections.
The mission of the project is to preserve and study data on contemporary art in the region, ensure public access to it, and expand knowledge of the cultural context of Central Asia. Through collaborative work on collecting, attributing, and verifying data, a collective memory is formed, cultural identity is strengthened, and new directions for further research are opened.
The digital collection process involves data collection, attribution, information verification, resolution of legal issues related to copyright, and ensuring the protection of intellectual property. Special attention is paid to supporting artists and protecting their rights — this is a fundamental principle of the Tselinny center’s work.
All information is stored on the project’s internal platform, which ensures the long-term preservation and protection of materials. In the future, Documentation aims to become part of a unified international network of archives providing free exchange of archival data with other cultural institutions and create new research opportunities.
The project is open to collaboration with cultural institutions, artists, researchers, collection heirs, interns, and everyone interested in the development and study of contemporary art in the region.
