Ecology and Sustainability

At Tselinny center, sustainable development, environmental care, and social responsibility lie at the heart of everything we do. We believe that every member of society shares the responsibility for making decisions and taking actions that minimize our ecological footprint. Tselinny center is a platform with a chain of changes: we address social challenges while inspiring and educating visitors on careful and responsible use of resources. We foster dialogue and encourage critical thinking among our audiences. Integrating sustainability themes into cultural projects helps nurture environmental awareness and promote mindful consumption. Today, sustainability touches every aspect of life, and the arts increasingly reflect this global agenda. We are confident that the small steps we take now will have a meaningful impact on future generations, and that each of us has a role to play. We remember that change begins with ourselves.

Reconstruction of the building

In our commitment to sustainability and environmental care, we chose to reconstruct the building rather than demolish it. For the Tselinny center, reconstruction was not only an ecologically responsible decision but also an opportunity to preserve historical heritage. Our hybrid multifunctional spaces allow us to make the most efficient and environmentally conscious use of every square meter. We create adaptable spaces for diverse events — from exhibitions, concerts, and film screenings to lectures and workshops. This approach minimizes the need for new construction or finishing materials, reduces energy consumption, and ensures maximum resource efficiency.

Responsible Design and Material Reuse

Set design is approached with sustainability in mind. Reusing decorations gives new life to a large volume of materials and reduces the carbon footprint. We work with suppliers and partners who share our values and environmental commitment. In this way, Tselinny center follows a circular model aimed at minimizing new resource use and creating a system where everything is reused and cycled.

Collaboration

Creating artworks in collaboration with other institutions is part of a strategy that pools resources to co-finance and support artistic production. This considered approach fosters sustainable and eco-friendly artistic practices. Multiple institutions combining efforts in sourcing materials and transporting objects reduces waste and promotes more efficient resource use. Coordinating production, delivery, and installation prevents the creation of duplicate sets of materials for the same artwork. Co-production ensures that artworks remain relevant and valuable over time, reducing the need for replacement and further resource consumption.

Innovative Use of Technology

Technology plays an important role in promoting sustainability and environmental care. Digital information screens significantly reduce paper use, lower energy consumption, allow content updates without additional resources, and engage visitors in ecological initiatives.

Respect for the Environment

Choosing to reduce parking in favor of eco-friendly solutions is an important and conscious step toward minimizing environmental impact. Tselinny center contributes to improving urban quality of life and reduces asphalted areas in Almaty. The A. Baitursynov Square adjacent to the Center is an essential part of the concept of ecological and cultural integration in the urban landscape. This space unites nature and culture, offering residents and visitors a place to relax, socialize, and find inspiration, creating a cultural promenade from the East Plaza to the nearby Nikolsky Cathedral.

Conscious Engagement and Feedback Mechanisms

The horizontal structure of Tselinny allows the Center to actively adapt to changing social needs and emphasizes inclusivity, accessibility, and relevance in programming for diverse audiences. We prioritize building relationships with local communities to understand their interests and needs, shaping the Center’s artistic program.

Our commitment to accessibility ensures that all people, regardless of physical, cognitive, or economic barriers, can interact with us. Beyond physical access, we strive to create programs that are inclusive and reflect diverse perspectives. We actively seek feedback from visitors and stakeholders to continuously improve our work.
